Alejandro Antonio Chafuen is Distinguished Executive Fellow of the Acton Institute and Chairman of the Chase Foundation of Virginia. Chafuen is on the governing board of several think tanks, including the Fraser Institute in Canada, CEDICE US (Venezuela), and Fundación Internacional para La Libertad (Madrid). He is president and founder of the Hispanic American Center for Economic Research (www.hacer.org), and the International Freedom Educational Foundation (www.theifef.org), and trustee of Grove City College (PA). Chafuen is a member of the John Templeton Foundation, the World Charity Foundation, and the Templeton Religion Trust. He is a member of the advisory board of the Instituto de Estudios Americanos CEU-CEFAS, Madrid, and Honorary Chairman of Fundación FREE (Buenos Aires-Montevideo).
A U.S. citizen, born in Argentina in 1954, and a graduate of the Argentine Catholic University, Chafuen received his Doctorate under Dr. Hans F. Sennholz, a disciple of Ludwig von Mises, and an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Francisco Marroquín. Among his many writings, he is the author of Faith and Liberty, which has been translated into Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Czech, Italian, Slovenian, and Spanish. He has been a member of the Mont Pelerin Society since 1980 and President of the Philadelphia Society (2017-2018). In 2007, he received the Nassau Institute Freedom Prize, in 2010, the Global Leadership Award from the Leadership Institute US, and in 2014, the Walter Judd Freedom Award from The Fund for American Studies, the 2016 Juan de Mariana Award, the 2017 Jack Kennedy Memorial Award (Grove City College), and the 2023 Baron Award (Philadelphia Society). Chafuen was a contributor for Forbes.com 2013-2025 and writes for numerous publications across the globe.
